May 1st  2008.. ALLY HARRON and MARIAN CURRY

Making their first  appearance at our club tonight, the Enniskillen, Northern Ireland based Duo of Ally and Marian certainly endeared themselves to our members with a superb concert of good,  old fashioned  country music.

Having first met in the local choir of Derrylin, County Fermanagh when only teenagers, each persued a career in music, Ally ventured into  Country whilst Marian chose Rock music. Each played in various bands and combos, both singing and acquiring instrumental skills, Ally on guitar, Marian on keyboards and mouth organ.

They were reunited in 1997 and decided to join forces, devising their own caberet act with the emphasis on Irish and Country music.

Tonight they were splendidly attired with Ally taking lead guitar and Marian on keyboard and / or harmonica, with each taking lead vocals and the other harmonising in fine style.

Starting with the Carl Smith 1951 hit, If Teardrops Were Pennies, they continued with Johnny Rodriguez's, Pass Me By and Buffy Saint Marie's,  I'm Gonna Be A Country Girl Again.

The evening continued in similar vein for all  three sessions with great vocals and instrumentation, to lots of songs not heard in our club before. These included, Woody Guthrie's, Reno Blues, also known as, Philadelphia Lawyer, Tommy Collins' / Merle Haggards, High On A Hilltop, Marty Robbins', Walking Piece Of Heaven, Tex Ritter's 1949 hit, Jealous Heart, Marie Osmonds 1973 no 1, Paper Roses, Hank Locklin's, This Song Is Just For You, Norma Jean's, Truck Driving Woman, Porter Wagner / Dolly Parton's, Forty Miles From Poplar Bluff ,and Bob Wills',  Betcha My Heart I Love You.

Several Irish songs were also delivered and both listeners and dancers were more than content with the duo's excellent non - stop performance.

Tonight we witnessed one of the finest concerts of real Country Music, and I  can only recommend highly that you go to an Ally / Marian show whenever the opportunity presents itself.  I for one certainly look forward to seeing them again
