11th March 2004 Bobby Jones

Tonight saw a welcome return for the Mid-Wales singer/guitarist Bobby Jones, who, having made several appearances in the area, has built up quite a substantial following.
Bobby is a seasoned professional, having been singing for more than thirty years and predominantly on the Country scene for the last twenty.Though slight in stature, he has a powerful, melodious voice and is an accomplished guitarist, generating a most varied programme.
Dancers filled the floor with the likes of ' Past the point of Rescue' ' Baby Blue,' You're no Angel and ' I Should have asked her Faster'. Sing along visitors joined in with several standards including 'Don't close your Eyes' Anna Marie/He'll Have to Go' Memories are made of This' etc. But the three most noteworthy highlights of the evening were his two tributes to the late fellow Welshman Malcolm Roberts. 'Love is All' and David Alexander 'The Answer to Everything' and his instrumental version of ' Cavatina - The Theme from the film, 'The Deer hunter ' (which incidentally was a vocal 'Hit' as ' He is Beautiful ' sung by a lady from Wales, Iris Williams). On each occasion the audience gave complete silence and afforded Bobby rapturous applause.
As is customary for Bobby, the night ended with the inspiring version of ' Mfanwy' the classic welsh song. What an outstanding performance he had given again.
