Tonight saw a welcome return for Canadian born singer / guitarist now resident in this country, Dean Austin. His second appearance at our club was as successful as his first, keeping both dancers and listeners happy all evening. Dean is a devotee of traditional country music and his mellow, dulcet voice is more than easy on the ear. He beguiled us with the nostalgic ballads eg. The Judds / Jamie O' Hara's 'Granpa' Paul Overstreets ' Sowin' Love' Isla Grant's 'Cottage in the Country ' He had us tapping our toes to Willie and Waylon's 'Good Hearted Woman' George Strait's ' The Fireman' and Alan Jackson's ' Summertime Blues' etc. The less common songs were featured too. Travis Tritts ' T.R.O.U.B.L.E.' Rodney Crowell's ' Give my Heart a Rest' and Britain's own John Aston's song 'Ole What's 'is Name'All types of dancers were catered for :eg ' Cannibals' and ' Down Louisiana Way' for the Linedancers, ' Mind your own Business ' for the Rock 'n' Rollers ' Walz across Texas' for the Smoochers and ' Best of Friends ' which always fills the floor with all and sundry. But, perhaps the highlight of the evening was the audience participation song dedicated to our Genial Hostess / Organiser ' Tequila Sheila'. All of this contributed to a fine evening's entertainment.Cyril Insley. Top
