September 13th 2007... KEN DURRANS

A frequent visitor to this part of the world, Ken always receivex a warm welcome from our members. His concerts always have a lovely mix of Uptempo numbers and Ballads, and, as an aficionado of Rock 'n' Roll music, he usually includes a few songs of this type.

Tonight he treated us to several Merle Haggard numbers including, The Bottle Let Me Down, Ramblin' Fever, and Mama Tried, Ray Steven's, Misty, George Straits, I Just Wanna Dance With You, and Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind, Ray Price's no1, For The Good Times, Willie Nelson's, Funny How Time Slips Away, Charlie Rich's, The Most Beautiful Girl In The World, Lots of George Jones songs including, I'll Share My World With You , and Charley Prides, All I Have To Offer You Is Me, amongst many.

I especially enjoyed Ken's venture into Rock 'n' Roll  when he gave us super covers of Ricky Nelson's, It's Late, Chuck Berry's, Nadine, ( a country hit in 1979 for Freddy Weller) Cliff Richard's, Move It and a couple Jerry Lee Lewis charted with, Breathless and You Win Again, to conclude yet another evening of super entertainment.

November 30th 2006  KEN DURRANS

Ken Durrans

I am always pleased to see Ken as I know he will provide an evening's entertainment full of my kind of  Country music, usually including a selection of fifties and sixties songs. Such was the occasion tonight as he sang a lovely mix of old and new material, all of which kept listeners and dancers content.

Starting with an excellent version of  Don Williams',  Come Early Morning, he continued in similar vein with Merle's, Today I Started Loving You Again, The Eagles, Peaceful Easy Feeling, Buck Owen's, Together Again and Charlie Prides, I'm So Afraid Of Losing You Again, all of which brought an enthusiastic, appreciative responce from our members.

As an ardent fan of George Jones, Ken always includes lots of songs from George's catalogue and this evening was no exception.

Tonight's examples included the classics, He Stopped Loving Her Today,  A Good Year For The Roses,  I Always Get Lucky With You,  She Thinks I Still Care and four songs from his 1999 album, Cold Hard Truth, George's best ever  (Ken's words), Choices, Sinners and Saints, Ain't Love A Lot Like That and You Never Know Just How Good You've Got It, all sung in fine style which the original artiste, i'm sure, would applaud.

For me,  however,  the best was yet to come as Ken rolled back the years to the fifties and performed Elvis songs including , Treat Me Nice, Chuck Berry's, C'est La Vie ( You Never Can Tell), Charlie Gracie's, Fabulous,  Ricky Nelson's, Travellin' Man and Don Gibson's, Sea Of Heartache.

Two other deliveries in this superb show worthy of special mention were Ken's interpretation of Steve Wariner's, What I Didn't Do,(new to his show) and Jerry Lee Lewis's, One Minute Past Eternity. For me, this performer can do no wrong. Great stuff, Ken.

JUNE 30 th 2005 KEN DURRANS

Tonight saw a return to the club of Ken Durrans, the good looking half of Phil and Ken' (his words) and what a great evening's entertainment he provided.

As an ardent fan of George Jones, it was not surprising that Ken gave us several of that singer's songs ranging from the early ' Love Bug' and ' She Thinks I Still Care' to the more recent ' I Don't Need Your Rockin' Chair' and ' High - Tech Redneck'.

He also sang other Country standards not generally heard nowadays   including Charlie Rich's No.1 smash ' The Most Beautiful Girl', Glen Campbell's super, ' Rhinestone Cowboy', Ronnie Milsap's ' Daydreams About Night Things' and an upbeat version of ' Mona Lisa' as recorded by Conway Twitty and Carl Mann.

Linedancers filled the floor to ' Tonight We Just Might Fall In Love Again', ' Heaven's Just A Sin Away' and others, as did partner dancers to ' Sing Me Back Home' and ' Wonderful Tonight'.

But  the highlights  for me started with a song from the catalogue of Ken's all time favourite singer, Ricky Nelson, ' Travellin' Man' and continuing with excellent versions of other fifties and sixties gems including ' Stuck On You', ' I Got Stung', ' One Night' ' Baby I Don't Care' ' Don't Leave Me Now', ' Only The Lonely', ' True Love Ways' ' That'll Be The Day' and ' Teddy Bear'.

Ken's powerful voice was ideal for the delivery of such classics, and with such performances he will always be welcome at our club.
