April 1st 2004 Mel Romane
Based in Nuthall, Nottingham, Mel Romane has 30 years or so experience performing in public, not always as a dedicated country singer. As an accomplished guitarist / vocalist he has been able to cover a wide range of popular music in his concerts.
This evening his programme consisted entirely of country standards which ideally suited our members, both dancers and listeners, and would-be songsters.
Smartly dressed in different outfits for each of the three sessions, he delivered a host of songs in quick succession, avoiding any unnecessary dialogue.
The dancers particularly enjoyed 'Livin' on Love' ,Waltz Across Texas, and Dance the Night Away. Members who enjoy a sing -a -long were treated to various medleys of songs all emanating from the fifties and sixties. How well this was received!
It was pleasing to hear two instrumentals, 'Apache' and ' Hava Nagila'. Mel also included my all-time favourite cowboy song 'El Paso'.
I counted at least forty-five songs / tunes being presented during the evening, which is excellent value by any standard, but one in particular stands out - ' My Grandfather's Clock' which involved great audience participation, and received a grand ovation.
