29th January 2004 Mick Ford Trio
Please also see Mick Ford & Laurel Canyon

We've seen Mick Ford in Burton and South Derbyshire on numerous occasions and always enjoyed his performances. However, tonight was something special as he had with him, his band, Laurel Canyon. Members comprise Mick on rhythm guitar and vocals, Bryn Sanders on bass guitar and John Grindy on pedal steel guitar. Their programme all evening consisted of songs that were easy on the ear,a pleasure to listen to.Many were taken from the catalogues of Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, and Hank Williams but especially pleasing was the inclusion of classic country songs not heard often on today's scene--'Shenandoah' 'Detroit City' 'Lucky Old Sun' 'I Love You Because' to mention a few.
The band were a tight unit, totally compatible with each other but special mention must be made of John whose lead pedal steel playing was absolutely incredible, mesmerising the audience with the sounds he was creating.
It was a privilege to listen to this band and no doubt this will not be their only visit to our club.
