August 27th  2009 MIKE LANE

Making his debut at our club tonight, Doncaster based Mike gave us a great show inspiring lots of compliments from our members.

This Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist has been involved professionally in Country music since the late 1980's. He has performed live on both TV and Radio in a singing and acting capacity and given concerts all over the world, sometimes alongside International stars of the music world.

Smartly dressed, he began this evening's performance with Marty Robbins',  Devil Woman. Ray Price's, My Shoes Keep Walking Back To You, Willie Nelson's, Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain and Chuck Berry's, Johnny B.Goode, a number 1 hit in 1969 for Buck Owens.

More classic songs followed including Merle Haggard's, Tonight The Bottle Let Me Down, Hank Williams', Settin' The Woods On Fire, Roger Miller's,  King Of The Road and George Jones',  She Still Thinks I Still Care.
Interspersed with these were more recent numbers, e.g.. The Tractors, Baby Likes To Rock It, Mark Knopfler's, Cannibals, The Maverick's, All You Do Is Bring Me Down and a couple written by  his  friend Ron Ryan, A Simple Song  and  I Sold My Heart On Ebay.
A couple of Folk songs were also featured, Ewan McColl's, Dirty Old Town and The Irish Rovers', The Unicorn.

All songs received Mike's personal backing and arrangements which afforded them a different but pleasant interpretation, and his fine strong vocals and excellent guitar work enhanced the presentation even here.

He obviously enjoys himself on stage and with concerts as pleasurable as tonight's, Mike will be asked back to entertain us at the Northern Renegades Club.
