August 4 th 2005 PETE JONES

There's always a welcome here for Rotherham based Pete because we know he will be singing both popular and infrequently heard songs, all with a wry dose of humour.
So it was tonight from the start as he began his show with Jeannie C.Riley's ' Good Morning Country Rain' other rarities included Carl Butler and Pearl's ' Loving Arms', also covered by Rita Coolidge, Red Steagall's ' Lone Star Beer and Bob Will's Music', Earl Thomas Conley's ' Somewhere Between Right Or Wrong', Joe Sun's ' I'm Gonna Find Love Where I Can', Billy Joe Shaver's ' If I Give My Soul and ' Take A Chance On Romance' and Wendell Atkins' ' Fallin' For You'.
The dancers particularly enjoyed Micky Newbury's ' Why You Been Gone So Long', a hit for Johnny Darrell in 1969, Alan Jackson's ' Chattahoochie', Hal Ketchum's ' Past The Point Of Rescue', Kathy Mattea's '18 Wheels and A Dozen Roses', Froggie's ' All Because Of You', Johnny Cash's ' Forty Shades Of Green' and Clint Black's ' Better Man' amongst many.
Pete also catered for the Rock n Rollers with Elvis' ' Don't Be Cruel' and anyone who enjoys Hoedowns with ' Blue Moon Over Kentucky' and ' Hello Mary Lou'.
Once again Pete gave us a smashing set of songs, everyone well received by the audience - and to add to his own enjoyment Pete sold out of eggs!

December 9th 2004 Pete Jones

Tonight's artiste is a regular visitor to our club and has entertained us frequently since it was formed.
Residing in the Rotherham , South Yorkshire area, Pete combines his music career with that of raising chickens, chinchillas and owls. Consequently he has become known as 'The Egg Man'. Pete's early venture into music led him to the Folk genre and then Country Music which he has now been playing for thirty years or so. Half of this time he has been involved in bands, but latterly he has been predominantly solo or in a duo.
He plays Rhythm guitar and has a rich baritone voice. His programme is quite varied and includes loads of songs not heard in our club from any other singer.
Two of his particular favourite singer/ songwriters are Joe Sun and Billy Joe Shaver; so it was especially nice to hear such songs as ' Shotgun Rider', 'Gonna Find Love Where I Can', 'I Need A Home Away From Home', 'Heart Of Texas', If I Give My Soul' and 'Take A Chance On Romance'.
Dancers were well catered for with 'Fly Like A Bird', ''Waltz Across Texas', 'Black Coffee', 'All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down' and ' Red Hot Dancer', etc.
Pete is renowned for incorporating into songs, segments from other ditties e.g.' Speed of The Sound Of Loneliness / Run Rabbit Run', Jambalaya / Hokey-Cokey' but his party piece is ' Ghostriders In The Sky' with 'Three Wheels On My Wagon', ' Please Mr Custer' and several more. A Veritable Masterpiece!
In addition to this we had songs of Alan Jackson, Hal Ketchum, Merle Haggard, Don Williams,Marty Robbins, The Bellamys, Elvis, and more. As always Pete gave us a wonderful show and no doubt will be returning next year.
