May 29th 2008 Rivendel Country

Another great show from Denise and Graham kept our members happy all evening. As usual they delivered in fine style, songs old and new, and others never heard in our club before.

Early songs included Don Schlitz's, The Gambler, Steve Goodman's, City Of New Orleans,Sammy Kershaw's, He Drinks Tequila, ( with Lorrie Morgan, of course), and Pam Tillis's, Blue Rose Is. Amongst these  however was one I had not heard before, Richard Digance's, Drinking With Rosie.

Later numbers featured Rodney Crowell's, I Walk The Line - Revisited, Rita MacNeil's, Working Man, Carlene Carter's, Every Little Thing, Blake Shelton's, Some Beach, Keith Whitley's, Don't Close Your Eyes and another I had not heard before, Graham's own composition, To Be A Working Man.

To bring this splendid concert to a close, everyone joined in with, The Cowboy Rides Away / Best of friends, and the encore song, Rose Garden, giving  Denise and Graham  the applause they richly deserved.

More old  and now well - known songs followed with Keith Whitley's, Don't Close Your Eyes, The Seekers', Speak To The Sky, George Strait's, I Just Wanna Dance With You, Johnny Cash's, Ring Of Fire, Roy Orbison's, California Blue and Susan Ashton's, Closer.

There were also plenty of numbers to sing along to, such as, Old Flames, Wild Rover, Ghost Riders In The Sky, The Cowboy Rides Away, Working Man, You're My Best Friend, Detroit City and Best Of Friends, every song receiving the appreciative applause that was richly deserved.

To bring a wonderful evening's entertainment to a close, Graham and Denise encored with, It's Five O'Clock Somewhere. No doubt we will be seeing this lovely duo again at our club.

 JUNE 23rd 2005 RIVENDEL COUNTRYRivendel

Tonight was a first-time appearance here for Denise and Graham Walker, better known of course as Rivendell Country, a name inspired by Tolkien's ' Lord Of The Rings'. Graham plays lead Guitar and  5 - string Banjo and Denise supports on Rythm occasionally and both share lead and harmony vocals. Graham was a member of ' The Trendsetters' and 'The Talismen' in his early career but from 1982 formed the Duo with Denise and performed mainly on the caberet circuit until 1987  when they decided to concentrate on Country music. Their show is a Non-Stop Extravaganza of all things Country from Bluegrass to Modern linedance tunes, with lots of standards and a little bit of George Formby  thrown in for good measure.Popular songs included ' Blanket On The Ground' ' Union Mare' 'Goodhearted Woman' and ' Stand By Your Man'. The Linedancers enjoyed Nancy Hayes' ' Come Dance With Me', Toby Keith's ' I Love This Bar', Lonestar's ' Mr. Mom' and Mark Knoffler's ' Cannibals' amongst others. I especially relished Lonzo and Oscar's ' I'm my Own Granpa', Tom T.Hall's ' The Engineers Don't Wave From The Trains Any More' A woderful Banjo medley of ' My Grandfather's Clock', ' The Ballad Of Jed Clampett' and 'Deliverance'. Their excellent interpretation of ' I Knew The Bride', a song from Dave Edmund's catalogue and not forgetting a wonderful chorus of ' I'm Leaning On A Lamp Post'.Altogether a splendid evening's entertainment was provided; so i'm sure a return for this lively, lovely duo is inevitable.
